New Scotland Yard, whose name derives from its former location in a street called "Great Scotland Yard", is a building in the City of Westminster where you can find the headquarters of the "Metropolitan Police Service". Equally, you can find the "Crime Museum" there, that contains a collection of several pieces of evidence from murders and assaults as well as it depicts famous criminal cases. Unfortunately, the museum is not open to the public. Image source
In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories, Sherlock Holmes is often consulted by Scotland Yard to help in difficult crimes. Especially Detective Inspector Lestrade, who is a detective at Scotland Yard, appears quite often in several stories asking for help from Holmes. He and the other detectives are generally depicted as bumbling and incapable in the original stories. As a rule, they are fairly nice but not good at their job, although they are quite good at arresting criminals when Sherlock has already caught them.
Thus, in honour of the world-renowned detective who always worked closely together with Scotland Yard, the crime database used by the Metropolitan Police has been called "Home Office Large Major Enquiry System" or for short HOLMES. So you should definitely visit Scotland Yard, which is located at 8-10 Broadway.
